In the mood for some coastal vibes, food and drink? Head over to La Cabana, located at 400 South Terrace, South Fremantle.
The Mexican inspired outdoor bar and restaurant opened up in 2020, although its founder, Chef Ben Fossilo has been in the food industry since 2013.
Chic and colourful, La Cabana also is a great place to host events and parties.
What do they offer?
You can expect all things Mexican and vibrant at La Cabana. This includes tequila, mezcal, classic margarita, chilli tequila margarita and ‘Mex-Pressotini’ (the Mexican version of Espresso).
Of course, you will also find local craft beers and La Cabana lager apart from a good selection of wines.
The food menu features crowd favourites such as tacos, tortillas, and tostadas apart from pineapple salsa, freshly shucked oysters and fish ceviche. Slow-cooked/braised beef cheek is accompanied by coconut yoghurt, herbs and pico de gallo.
Apart from the regulars, you can also find vegan and gluten-free options here.
Behind the scenes
Back in 2013, Chef Ben Fossilo started his catering business with Eat No Evil, a food truck that became known as the best street food in Perth.
Seven years later in 2020, Fossilo partnered with Freo locals, Madi Fay and Jarrah Stevenson, to open up La Cabana.
From running a modest food truck to being the owner of a trending destination venue in Fremantle, Fossilo’s journey is an incredible one. La Cabana’s 120-seats are quickly filled every night and the Sunday afternoon’s Club Cabana sessions boost the Latin vibes much more.
Like the colourful food La Cabana offers, the décor is light and vibrant with pastel and earthy tones in the interior bar and open kitchen. The open courtyard, tropical hessian shade and bench tables add an interesting tropical touch.
You can find ceviche seafood specials and super fresh crudo throughout summer apart from locally made burrata.
Coming soon is the Eating Amplified’ event in winter of 2022, where local artists are slated to perform at La Cabana. Enjoy the music while gorging on a 5-course curated La Cabana special menu!
Biggest selling points
La Cabana is trending as the perfect outdoor setting to catch up with friends over Mexican street food and drinks. The sunny vibes gel perfectly with their colourful menu.
