Meat pies, apple pies, vegetable pies, potato pies… How good are pies? There is nothing quite like ‘em. Pies are the best.

You simply can’t beat biting into the supportive supple crust encasing gravy and your filling of choice. Although it can be easy to chuck a Four’N Twenty into the oven, there’s something utterly scrumptious about opting for a pie that’s a bit more bespoke. It’s a complete different experience than those packets form Woolies. Once you try a gourmet pie from one of these bakeries… you’ll understand what we’re talking about.

We’ve gone through Perth and done some serious taste testing, collected and measured our data, exchanged opinions, consulted with the pie Gods, and here, we’ve finally comprised a list of the very best pies in Perth… get your tomato sauce ready!

    Pinjarra Bakery

We couldn’t talk about meat pies without making a mention of WA’s renowned Pinjarra Bakery! For over 25 years, Pinjarra Bakery have been serving up the State’s most favourite pies. From meat pies, veg pies, invention pies and more—they’re the go-to when you’re craving that classic meat pastry.

Wash down your pie with their signature “Bakers Blend’ barista made coffee and follow up your lunch with one of their delectable sweet pastries. There’s so much fresh goodies to choose from at Pinjarra Bakery, you’ll feel like a kid in a candy store.

    Gather & Co

    Gather & Co

This speciality delicatessen in Inglewood is packed to the brim with small-batch artisan products and deli favourites, highlighting the best of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-owned native brands. Perfect for gift shopping, supplies for your next charcuterie board, and keep caffeinated with their cafe next door.

Oh, and their meat pies! Their traditional English Paté En Croute meat pie, is a classic British dish that is hard to come by in Perth. Resembling a loaf of bread rather than a meat pie, the delicious golden pastry encases Berkshire pork, bush tomato & apricot pate en croute. Best served with housemade bread and butter pickles. This pie has developed a cult following.

    J.B. O’Reillys

Self-proclaimed Perth’s Best Irish Pub, J.B. O’Reilly’s is contributing a unique addition to our list with their beef and Guinness pie. Like any good pub, they serve up generous portions, which we’re huge fans of.

Their traditional Irish meat pie is plated up with a side of creamy mashed potato and mushy pea sauce. Whilst it might be the most expensive pie to make this list, the price is worth it… yep, even for a meat pie! You won’t get a quality Irish dish quite like one at J.B. O’Reilly’s

Plus, not to mention, their eclectic memorabilia and atmosphere is a truly grand dining experience.

    Darringtons

    Darringtons

Calling all vegans! Darrington’s pies are a MUST-TRY this weekend.

This tucked-away gem in Burswood (right before you hit Graham Farmer Freeway), specialises in vegan and gluten-free pastry! These guys are serious about their craftsmanship too.

Vegans, you have options. Stocking a mean green curry, classic shepherd’s, pulled jackfruit or pepper ‘steak’. Take one fresh and one frozen for a rainy day. Peruse the huge range of sweet baked goods too… Insider tip: their Vanilla Slice is divine!

    Mary Street Bakery

Is there anything Mary Street can’t do? Across their many locations (Highgate, West Leederville, QV1 Perth, Allendale Square, City Beach and Claremont), indulge in your morning after glory with a beef pie and specialty coffee.

Coffee and meat pie? Don’t knock it till you try it; it does wonders for the hangover. Save a slice of their lemon and poppyseed bread for dessert; it’s quite possibly one of Perth’s most underrated and delicious sweet treats.

    Culley's Tearooms

    Culley's Tearooms

Serving Fremantle since 1925, this bakery team crafts a gorgeous gravy without fail. The homemade feel – despite it never being anything we could master at home – it’s nostalgia for us with every bite.

Choose your own adventure with their huge range of pies. From steak, chicken, bacon and vegetarian, it’s the failsafe on-the-go comfort food.

    Boatshed Bakery

Opt for Cottesloe’s Boatshed Market pies to share when you want dinner sorted. Using fresh WA ingredients, their house-made family pies are cooked daily.

Grab on your way home with a few more supplies from one of our favourite fresh markets in Perth. Choose between slow-cooked Beef Bourgogne, Porcini Mushroom and Chicken, Thai Green Curry or Butter Chicken. One of our favourite fresh markets in Perth. There’s even an upstairs winery too!

    Boatshed Bakery

From pie lover to pie lover

Pies are an important part of Australian culture. It’s what we eat when we’re heading back from a surf, it’s the go-to order when making a pit-stop and just a damn satisfying lunch that is too good to refuse.

We hope you enjoyed our article on the best pies in Perth, and that you’re now more informed on where to get your next pie fix! With many great bakeries to choose from, we hope you can try them all and let us know which one you think is the best.
