1. Bad Love Burger Co.
The simple things matter most. Bad Love gets big-ups for their soft buns and juicy meat. Their Doubles are the perfect size for a satisfying meal – you have to try Beast of Bourbon, stacking double the beef and cheese, to know what we’re talking about. Southern Love cocooning a sensational twice-fried chicken thigh and Cherry Bomb with sweet-and-spicy cherry chipotle BBQ sauce are other standout burgers.
2. Christo’s
The unassuming lunch bar serves some of the best burgers in Perth at reasonable prices. If you’re a fan of smash burgers, make sure to try the Christo cheeseburger. It has a smash patty, a huge mass of cheese and grilled onion, lettuce and tomato, and Christo’s tasty special sauce. The Big Drip takes it to the next level with two beef patties, bacon, fried chicken and loads of sauce – a burger bonanza you don’t want to miss.
3. Varsity
One of Perth’s best-known burger joints has something for meat lovers, vegetarians and vegans. The buttermilk fried chicken breast in Soul burger is fried to perfection. Big Kahuna is the real deal, with a delicious mixed veg patty, roasted red pepper, grilled pineapple and onion rings. Humungi Fungi packs vegan crumbed field mushroom, avocado, peach chilly relish and spicy peach BBQ sauce. Varsity has one of the more inventive burger menus in the city.
4. Meet and Bun
Based in Trinity Arcade, the burger restaurant is a beef and chicken lovers’ paradise, with options for vegetarians too. Their burger names are inspired by hit American TV shows and movies. Gotta love Big Daddy with the extra beef patty, double cheese, double smoked bacon, onion, mustard, pickles and chipotle mayo in a potato bun. The Dark Night is an impressive southern style fried chicken burger. M’AShroom’s portabello mushroom, tomato cheddar, onion and chipotle combo hit the spot.
5. RoyAl’s
Cause we’ll never be royals…? Think again. The burger restaurant serves beef burgers fit for a monarch. King of Crowns is a total feast in your mouth, stacking beef, cheese, bacon, slaw, onions, mac and cheese, pickles, and fancy sauce (yes, really). El Diablo is too bad to resist with beef cheese, chopped jalapenos, tater tots, hot ketchup mayo and onion.
6. Big Rigz Burger Co.
Big Rigz Burger serves some of the best burgers in Perth. Their ingredients are fresh, buns soft and meat, vegetarian and vegan patties flavourful. Their Korean-style burger with Korean kimchi, pickled daikon, shredded cabbage, gochujang mayo and Korean sauce is a superstar. Big Rigz Deluxe with double everything is not for the faint-hearted. The mushroom, beans, beetroot and walnut patty in Vegan Rigz is excellent.
7. Flipside Burgers
Now in its 16th year, the burger institution has smashing beef burgers. Case in point – the lip-smacking QVB with prime beef, bacon, cheese, free-range eggs, tomato, red onion relish, lettuce, beetroot and mayo. Chicken lovers can try the Pear & Parmesan chicken breast with fresh pear, Parmesan, rocket, relish and mayo. Vegetarians have the delightful Garden Party with a stunning spicy chickpea and sweet potato patty.
8. Short Order
Making a great burger is a tall order. But one of Perth CBD’s most popular burger joints appears to have no problem at all. Their no-frills menu focuses on juicy meat cooked to perfection and generous Doubles. You can swap the meat for a plant-based patty. There’s a bunless option if you only want to feast on the insides. Know what’s a nice pairing? Cauliflower bites with chilli dust, slaw dressing and pickles on the side – they really do pack a punch.
9. Compton Burgers
Generous sizes, delicious burgers and fast service, Compton Burgers ticks all the right boxes. Their burgers teem with classic ingredients – Compton Burger (Double) has a fabulous beef patty, two cheese slices, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato and pickles. Bacon in Da Hood adds crispy bacon, mustard and ketchup. Vegetarian Paradise does justice to its name with a mildly spicy and great tasting vegetarian patty, avocado, lettuce, onion, tomato and sweet chilli sauce. Everything’s top quality!
10. Hoodburger
Hoodburger is a popular Perth establishment for American-style burgers. Their smashed beef patties are juicy, tender and expertly seasoned. Chicken lovers won’t be disappointed with their crisp fried chicken tenders. Honey-butter and Golden Curry burgers are exceptional. Be prepared for the insane amount of fries on the side.
