What happens when an obsession for whiskey, Aussie camaraderie, and innovation meet? The result is Whipper Snapper, a Western Australian distillery known for its award-winning whiskies.
Founded in 2014, the distillery is located in 139 Kensington St. East Perth, and also features an eclectic Whiskey & Coffee bar.
In addition to flavourful, smooth, and innovative whiskies, you can also taste top-notch 5 Senses coffee. There’s also a masterclass and a Distillery Journey tour of the facility where you get to see the Australian whiskey making process.
Behind the scenes
It all started with an obsession – with whiskey. Meet the young Whipper Snappers and co-founders Alasdair Malloch (Al) and Jimmy Mckeown whose love of whiskey led them to places.
Al’s neighbour, Vic, shared his secret whiskey recipe and the story behind it, in a small shed in Scarborough. Vic had been distilling his whiskey using a 50-year-old recipe he had co-created with his friend, a U.S. pilot, back in WWII days.
Armed with this recipe, Al and Jimmy headed to Colarado, and later Scotland, where they met their current mentors, Tommy Cooper, and Frank McHardy.
With these two experts as whiskey mentors, Al and Jimmy perfected the process, and the recipe, to make Whipper Snapper Distillery, a unique brand.
